Project study "Invisible Victims of Gender Violence".

Description of Project: The aim of this study was to determine the psychological consequences of   160 children of women victims of domestic violence treated in different units in 4 Autonomous Regions of Spain and the relation to the type of violence exposed to. 

The specific objectives were: (1) to estimate the type of abuse mothers had received; (2) to determine the type of mistreatment received by children, distinguishing between: direct physical and emotional abuse, exposure (knowledge of, hearing, witnessing consequences...) to  the abuse of the mother or involvement (trying to defend mother, attacking father, asking for help,..) to the mistreatment of the mother; (3) To find out the past and present conditions of the abuse and the nature and extent of the current conflict with the father and/or partner. Duration of mother and child abuse, current status regarding mother and children and (4) to discover the type and comorbidity of the psychological problems of the children.

Funding: Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.

Date: May 2013 - April 2014.

Participants: 140 children from La Rioja, Extremadura, Murcia and Mallorca were included in the study.
